6 simple ways to refresh your bedroom this spring

Ah, the mighty bedroom. A place of rest, relaxation and blissful slumber. We spend so much time in it, yet it’s often one of the most overlooked rooms in the house when it comes to a spruce-up. Just because most of those hours are spent sleeping, doesn’t mean this space should be looked over. That’s why we’ve come up our top six ways to give your bedroom a much-needed refresh in the warmer season.

Fresh linen

First up, bedlinen. Fresh bedding is a no-brainer when it comes to simple bedroom makeovers. Nothing screams ‘new season’ like a crisp set of sheets. Not only are they easy on your hip pocket, bed sheets are extremely effective at transforming the look and feel of the entire room. Our pick for spring? A linen set from Bed Threads; the pre-washed pure French flax linen is buttery soft and the colour range is just perfect for a spring mood-lift.

Let there be light

Here’s another bedroom misnomer: just because you tend to spend most of your time sleeping in the bedroom, doesn’t mean it needs to look like a vampire’s lair. Avoid dark and dingey bedrooms with adequate lighting. And not just any sort of lighting – plain old downlights can make the space seem a little sterile. A combination of lighting is needed to set the right mood in the bedroom. We recommend mixing it up with some lovely pendants, bedside lamps or even a sexy new chandelier.

Start (or expand) the indoor jungle

We’re well and truly into spring now, so it’s the perfect opportunity to bring some of that luscious greenery indoors. And bringing the outdoors in has never been as important as it is now – you know what they say, when you’re housebound, fill your home with plants. Well, we’re not sure if anyone does actually say that, but it’s great advice, particularly for us Melbournians.

Indoor plants are amazing for you and your bedroom. Not only do they instantly lift your décor game, they’re also great natural air filters and noise dampeners. No green thumb? No worries! Pick up a devil’s ivy or snake plant – guaranteed to forgive the most forgetful of plant parents.

Fresh lick of paint – or a new artwork

Wanting to try something new? Why not add a feature wall? This can be something simple like a quick paint job to add a pop of colour. Or you could finally try out that wallpaper you’ve been drooling over on Pinterest. And if an entire wall change doesn’t tickle your fancy, then perhaps a new artwork hanging over the bed might just be the thing your bedroom needs this spring.

Indulge all senses

A bedroom refresh doesn’t just involve updating the visual elements. The overall mood of a space is influenced by all our other senses, too. Best way to guarantee utter relaxation? Add some sounds and scents to the mix. Bring in a portable speaker to play those calming evening tunes and introduce a diffuser or pillow spray. Top it off with one of those delicious candles we mentioned last time and you’ll be on your way to bedroom bliss.

Don’t forget the floor

If the bedroom is one of the most overlooked rooms in the house, then the bedroom floor is the most overlooked space in the bedroom. Whether it’s basic carpet or luxurious herringbone timber flooring, every bedroom can do with a rug. Think of it as an extension of your bed – you don’t keep the bed bare, so why should the floor be? A floor rug can change the entire feel of a bedroom, and add some much-needed pattern, colour, texture and warmth to the space.
