7 Melbourne-made wares to spruce up your interior during lockdown

Melbourne, here we are again.

Rather than focus on the current lockdown, we’ve decided to take this opportunity to highlight some of our favourite Melbourne companies that help make interiors fabulous. It’s no secret that we have some of the best interior wares in the country, which is why narrowing it down to just 7 was so hard.

Jardan

No Melbourne list would be complete without the cult favourite, Jardan. When most companies are manufacturing furniture overseas, it’s refreshing to see that Jardan’s furniture is made right here in Melbourne. To make things even better, they’re also endorsed by the Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) Label – an Australian labelling program that certifies the environmental performance of products – to Level A, the highest attainable certification. So, not only will a Jardan furniture addition look fabulous in your home, it will tick the locally made and environmentally conscious boxes too.

Just Adele

If you want to know the meaning of the words “custom”, “unique” and “exclusive”, just look at Just Adele. With a focus on sustainable, simple and functional art pieces, Just Adele offers a truly unique approach to furniture design. No two pieces are the same, with every piece designed and made by Just Adele. Striking and utterly unique, the furniture pieces are perfect as the centrepiece of a sprawling living space or as a discreet addition to your bedroom.

Wood for

Will Foster is the mastermind behind Wood for, designing and creating custom hand-made furniture from reclaimed and sustainably-sourced Australian timber for homes and businesses. Will’s lateral design approach, sensibility for materials and client-centred process has grown from 15 years of working in the arts. A worthy addition to any interior.

Ivy Muse

Whether you’re a plant fiend or a botanical amateur, Ivy Muse is bound to have something to tickle your plant-themed fancy. Launched in Spring 2014, IVY MUSE is a botanical wares studio based in Melbourne, Australia. What started as an idea to encourage creativity with greenery has grown into an all-encompassing commitment to cultivating wellbeing with plants. Ivy muse design functional plant stands and botanical wares that amplify plant-life within a space.

Ben-Tovim Design

Ben-Tovim Design was founded by Jonathan Ben-Tovim in 2011 as an industrial design consultancy with an in-house range of lighting and furniture. Born in Zimbabwe, Jonathan made his way through Adeliade, Holland and London before settling down in Melbourne. And boy are we glad he did. Each Ben-Tovim design is assembled by hand in the Melbourne studio, and parts and materials are sourced from local suppliers when possible. The studio also dabbles in creating utilising new technologies such as 3D printing, with the ultimate aim of creating timeless objects worth holding on to.

Elnaz Ceramics

Originally from Tehran, Iran, Elnaz Nourizadeh first learned potter when she was 17, before moving to Melbourne in 2013 and opening her own pottery studio here. Her clay pieces aim to break the traditional styles of pottery through the vibrant use of colour and graphic glazing. And while clay may be her preferred medium – one that lets her create any shape and then change it completely – she also includes wood or metal in some of her sculptural pieces which focus on lines and surfaces as the main elements.

Ross Gardam

Ross Gardam is an Australian furniture and lighting company established in 2007. Each product is first designed by Ross Gardam and embodies a unique contemporary aesthetic. The designs are then hand crafted right here in Melbourne by skilled artisans and makers. Pairing traditional craft techniques with high end manufacturing technology, the resulting products are elegant, accessible and made for modern living.
